This was a first to remember!
I remember being a little girl and whenever we would stay at a hotel with my family, we (the kids) always wanted to go to the top floor “just to see” where the presidential suite or penthouse was located. I remember the feeling going up the elevator and thinking, wow, this is exciting. I would wonder who you needed to be to actually stay in these large rooms. I thought only celebrities, royalty and presidents stayed in these rooms.
So when we were looking for places to stay on our recent trip to Tunisia, Kais wanted to surprise me and book something luxurious. Well it did not disappoint, it was grand, traditional and oh so beautiful that you never wanted to leave. When he said that he had negotiated (he always loves a good deal) the rooftop Presidential suite for one week, I was throughly excited! It reminded me of my childhood. My favourite part was that it had an outdoor pool opened 24 hours, the breakfast was served near our room, we were on the rooftop and the breakfast selection was absolutely delicious!
So today I wanted to share some photos of our stay at the newly opened “maison d’hôtes” Dar El Ennassim located in La Marsa, a hip suburb of Tunis
Want to see more of Tunisia? I visited other cities last year here, here and here.
To experience the true culture, staying at maison d’hotes is the perfect way to travel. I could not stop taking pictures of the floor tiles that were traditional, colorful and fun!
Not only did we have a view of the neighbourhood, but it was peaceful (apart from the call to prayer) and we were alone during the day. It felt like a home away from home.
I bought our dresses at the local market, the Souk, in Tunis.
Nap time…in our king size bed.
This was only a part of our morning breakfast. I LOVE a good breakfast and this one was amazing!
Happy Travels!
