Have you ever thought “if only my stomach was flat or flatter then I could wear that top?”
Yep, it’s safe to say that most likely we’ve all had that thought.
The wonderful thing about fashion is that clothing have the magic to help accentuate or camouflage different areas of your body.
After giving birth to my baby girl less than 2 weeks ago, I have also been more self conscious of my stomach. Naturally, I have been wearing sweaters since it is still winter in Montreal and unfortunately t-shirt weather doesn’t seen to be around the corner. Secondly, there are simple tricks and specific details on sweaters that will help to give the appearance of a slimmer stomach.
Here are 3 types of sweaters that you should look for to help camouflage your stomach when you need it.
PEPLUM TOP
First of all, contrary to what some women might think, peplum tops will work on everyone only if you wear it with the right bottom for your shape. The peplum covers your belly while creating the illusion of a curvier shape defining your waist (which is usually the narrowest part of a women’s body).
Style Tip: If you want to wear a peplum but are not certain what to choose, then the safest way to wear it is to choose a slightly darker shade. If you are like me and want to wear color, then wear a bright peplum with a dark bottom for a slimmer style.
Here are some ideas of peplum tops that are available online.
stripe peplum, peplum tee, peplum blouse, talbot peplum sweater (as worn in picture, sold out), peplum sweater, double stripe peplum
LOOSE CARDIGAN
The important thing is to wear a loose, slightly oversize or chunkier sweater that doesn’t hug the body like the traditional button down cardigans. The length of the cardigan doesn’t really matter (hip length, knee length or complete body length) as long as the actual sweater is thick enough to have a drapy or wrap style look without being tight. This will give you the option to wrap your cardigan and cover your belly as needed.
Here are some ideas of lose cardigans that are available online:
Dolman cardigan, dolman stripe cardigan, pocket detail long cardigan, super soft cardigan (as worn in picture), pink lace up, long cardigan
TIE FRONT OR KNOT DETAIL
This sweater style is more in the details. A lot of tops have a tie front, knots, ruching or gathers on one side or even right in the front which will distract from your belly. This has a crazy yet ever so simple slimming effect. Some of the tops that are textured, printed, colored or striped will be even better as they will have double the covering effect ( for example: the photo shows me wearing a tie front + waffle textured sweater…this sweater is also incredibly comfortable).

I hope these tips helps.
