During the winter months we all try to find ways to keep our energy levels high either with vitamins, caffeine, exercise or a quick vacation. I enjoy my morning ritual of a hot drink to get my day going. When I visited my sister-in-law she made me this amazing hot drink using the Vitamix blender adding this one ingredient that made it creamy and OH SO GOOD!  I actually had a lot of energy for the rest of the day. It’s no surprise that it has been said that this is one of the most nutritious foods. hot drink with nutrients will boost energy levelsHEMP SEEDS! The trick is to add about 1 tablespoon per cup to your milk or smoothies. It makes your drinks creamy, you get the foam on top not to mention that it adds you a boatload of vitamins, essential fats and minerals! Just don’t add too much as it has a strong nutty flavor. Honestly, this simple step has made ALL the difference in increasing my energy levels and daily nutrients. One cup is enough and I am good to go for the day!

But what exactly are Hemp Seeds?

It grows on a plant. The hemp “seed” is actually a dry fruit with a hard shell. It is considered one of the most versatile plant and is cultivated for it’s fibers, seeds, oils and meal. However, do not heat the seed as it will destroy the nutrients.

  • Rich in healthy fats (omega-3, omega-6)

I usually use the Vitamix blender to ground the hemp seeds, adding about 1 cup of my almond milk, some spices depending on my mood such as cardamon, cinnamon, ginger, tumeric and a dash of cayenne. For added sweetness 1-2 tsp of honey or dates and a bit of coconut milk if I want some extra thickness.

      This ingredient has made ALL the différence in my energy levels, I even at it in my yogourt and hot chocolate but ground it first.
