Sometimes it seems that life is a big competition, there are many ways that you can compete, name me something, an activity, heck even a hobby and I’ll find you a group or a team that challenges themselves to be the best in the form of a competition. Thank you to Olympics, professionnal sports and athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, David Beckham or Tiger Woods, competing for the gold medal or for recognition of a talent and skill the pressure and anxiety and fear can be bubbling under the surface.
It’s not a matter of motivating these kids, it’s a matter of making them feel safer and then they can be free to succeed.
Rebecca Smith, High-Performance Coach
Imagine if you are raising a teen let’s say between the age of 10 and 18 years old. As a parent you might not always realize the fear and anxiety that you’re child might be feeling to perform in an often high pressure and high performing sport, let’s talk specifically about competitive sports. If this is the case for you, then listen carefully to this conversation as there is wisdom shared by my guest who understands this very well.
Rebecca Smith, a high-performance coach, former gymnast and coach, recovering perfectionist, founder of the Complete Performance Coaching as well as Perform Happy Program, host of the podcast Perform Happy and mama to 2 girls and mini-gymnasts. She helps take teens from fearful to confident through weekly exercises and coaching in her monthly membership program.
I basically teach them (teens) to slow doen, listen to your brain, don’t try to push out of your comfort zone so much that you fall apart, push it incrementally.
